Soundtracked 30: Caitlin’s Way

We’ve got three shows coming up in June. Three! The first is Soundtracked 30 which will be going down on the evening of Friday, June 8 at Stuttering John’s (19 Simcoe St. S.)

Following a costume contest win back at Soundtracked 24 in January this show will be co-hosted by Caitlin Currie of The Cane Toads. As such she also chose the lineup which features The Cane Toads, HeSaid SheSaid (who last appeared on a BA stage way back at Soundtracked 5), How Sutherland & The Tangerine Dream (who we’ve been trying to set something up with for a while now), and a special duo performance from Darling Meadow and our own Cassy.

Daniel Hunt will be showcasing some art and the Broken Arts Zine Distro will be on hand as usual. Cover is $6

The Mixtape Project #12: Pop Rocks

It’s the hottest day of the year so far here in Oshawa and a long weekend to boot so clearly you need some sunny pop music. I’ll do you one better. Here’s some sunny rock covers of pop songs! Ben Gibbard of Death Cab For Cutie covers Canada’s own Avril Lavigne. Toronto’s Blankket takes on OutKast. The Elwins are joined by Borf Ruffians’ Luke Lalonde and Superchunk also join in on the Beyonce covers. Ted Leo mashes American Idol Kelly Clarkson with the Yeahs, The Tyde weigh in with a track from a Madonna tribute album, Sonic Youth covers ’60s pop band Carpenters, and Beach Boy Brian Wilson covers one of my favorite Disney songs. Enjoy!

Pop Rocks
1. Ben Gibbard - Complicated (Avril Lavigne)
2. The Blankket - Hey Ya! (OutKast)
3. The Elwins feat. Luke Lalonde - Countdown (Beyonce)
4. Superchunk - Say My Name (Destiny’s Child)
5. Ted Leo - Since U Been Gone / Maps (Kelly Clarkson / Yeah Yeah Yeahs)
